Back in May, the owner of the golf club that I was running, walked into my office at the end of the day.  In no uncertain terms, he told me that he was eliminating the Business Manager position.  Memberships were not walking in the door and finances were looking sketchy, salaries were going to be reduced or eliminated.

That was a real punch in the gut.  It was nothing personal, he and I still talk occasionally, it was just dollars and cents.  It took 13 years in the golf industry for me to reach the top spot at a club and that was dashed in a five minute meeting.

At first I started looking intently for a job at a club, calling all of my contacts, scouring the internet, yet there was zero work in golf, other than the entry level pro shop attendant position.  Instead I decided to be unemployed for awhile and live a little lean.

I've been blogging on Steemit, taking long walks with my dogs, hanging out on the beach, whiling away the Summer.  That chapter has finally come to a close.  Now it's time to take stock and figure out the newest reincarnation of myself will be.

I don't have to work in the golf industry necessarily, even though that has been my field since 2003.  The industry is actually failing as demographics continue to change.  

Seniors still play the game, but they have no loyalty anymore.  They'll play where it's cheapest.  Seniors don't care about tournaments and organized competition much either, one of the main reasons someone would join a golf club.  The other part is that they're old and unfortunately dying off.

The under 55 set don't have the time these days to keep an active golf schedule.  Between ferrying the kids between activities and actually working, parents are strapped for time and resources.  The price hikes in property taxes and health insurance in the states has made sure that very few have the "extra" money to support a golf habit.

With that said, I need to focus myself on what it is I would enjoy doing for the next twenty years.  I figure I will need to work at least that long.  Below is a list of jobs that I've done since the 7th grade of school, in chronological order.

* business manager

* blogger

What will I be next?  That is what I'm currently trying to figure out.  Anyone hiring a jack-of-all-trades in Coastal New Jersey?
