Can We Trust Amazon?

<p>A woman in Washington state was having a conversation with her husband when the in-home device, Alexa, recorded a private conversation and sent it to someone in their contacts. The woman and her husband have now removed all Amazon devices in their home.&nbsp;</p>

<p>An article in the New York Times discusses how Amazon is pushing it's facial recognition software to police. Read story <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2018/05/22/technology/amazon-facial-recognition.html">here</a>. A lot of people are asking Amazon to stop, but it is unlikely they will.</p>
<p>Then one of the scariest things... Amazon is the official cloud of the United States Pentagon. So all the top secret and classified data will be on Amaozon's servers.</p>
<p>Let's not forget that Amazon pays little in federal taxes and the owner Jeff Besos is one of the least giving and philanthropic CEOs in history. He is so bad at it, <a href="https://www.insidephilanthropy.com/guide-to-individual-donors/jeff-bezos.html">he asked people on Twitter what he should give to</a>.</p>
<p>They have their fingers in a lot of things and they are recording voices inside. They also bought Ring, a video camera doorbell. That gives them the ability to see outside the house too. With all the things they are involved in, it is hard not to suspect some possible problems.</p>
<p>Absolute power corrupts absolutely.&nbsp;</p>
<p>I'm not sure we should be giving Amazon or any company for that matter, that much access to our personal lives and our government secrets. I'm not saying there is some big conspiracy, but the more power we give them, the more opportunities there are for corruption.&nbsp;</p>
<p>I still think they have made millions of lives easier and they have helped a great deal of people become independently wealthy. I think that is awesome, but like anything... we should keep our eyes on them.</p>

This is a creepy situation, i never thought Amazon would do these cheap things,
Amazon is one of the world biggest brand.
But if they are doing these kinda activitites, then we should baycout it.

Oh dear, is there no more privacy these days? The above is just one example that was reported. The other day, I saw something about the Smart TV. It seems that as long as the TV is on, the camera is also on and recording everything. It was suggested that you cover up the camera if you are not using it. What about the others? I am sure, there are plenty more gadgets that are invading our privacy that we are unaware of. Scary!

Amazon also cooperates with various intelligence agencies. In 2015 they intercepted a Thinkpad keyboard purchased by a Tor developer (who has not committed any offense), to install a spy device. Presumably they'll do such things more often than it's known.
