I'm on the road today with a foreign body. So basically it's my body - but it doesn't feel like that right now.
Even when I wanted to get up in the morning, it was as if my body was saying, "Go ahead, I'm going to lie down a bit longer." Not wanting to argue, I gave him thirty minutes to think it over and dozed some more. But even after that he remained stubborn. Now I had to act so as not to be late for work. So I forced him to go to the bathroom with me.
Surprisingly, I immediately recognised myself in the mirror - unlike many other days at this hour. Today, however, the face I saw there was well known to me, and so I greeted myself warmly. My body, on the other hand, remained a stranger to me. It was so heavy and sluggish. Moreover, every muscle in it seemed to be totally hardened, every movement hurt. It was as if he had had to stand in for Sisyphus for several days - but I would know that.
He also failed to cooperate with me during the rest of the morning. Washing and brushing my teeth was still okay. But when I put on my socks, he became stubborn again and forced me to sit on my bed. And that was exactly how I had fallen into his trap, because he simply refused to get up again.
So now I sat there staring slightly apathetically into nowhere. The rattling circles of thought in my head slowly softened and gradually began to dissolve into a comforting nothingness. My eyes grew heavier and heavier. I almost lay back down in bed. But at the last moment - I was already about to tip over towards the pillow - I managed to take the reins again with an iron will.
Fortunately, I had no appointments this morning. So the thirty-minute delay was no problem. But for the rest of the day, this damned body of mine refused to cooperate. Every movement seemed like a feat of strength and slow motion. While my head had already formulated the first sentence of a covering letter, my fingers were still struggling with the first letter; between the plan to make a phone call and typing the number in the mobile phone, a seemingly eternity passed; and even getting up to get some strength for lunch was hard work.
Now I'm finally off work - for this day and this week, but this foreign body sits on my office chair as if it weighed a ton and won't move a millimetre. It completely refuses to move. I'll probably have to work overtime...
