When the sun's out we do stuff - climbing South Wales highest hill

A few days ago, myself and Mrs Welshstacker took a cheeky day off work to celebrate Mr W passing her masters degree. We had planned to spend it eating, drinking and generally enjoying each other company while 1/2pint was staying over grandma's.

We don't get many sunny days in Wales, so when that big burning ball of gas does make an appearance, you've got to make the most of it. So it was decided that we would go out for a walk. We live in an area where there are several woodland walks and we've done them many times, so I suggested I would take Mr W up "Pen y Fan" (South Wales highest point). I've done the climb many a time in my younger years and was surprised to find out she'd never been up there.

First port of call..... Load up on food for the day, so we went to our local beefeater that do a rather nice breakfast menu.

Start off with the continental option....

Then move on to the full-Welsh breakfast. 

After over indulging, we went home to pack and make the short 40 minute drive to the Brecon Beacons.

I gave her a little hope by telling her that this was the top. I lied!!!

One final push to the second "fake" summit.... At this point Mrs W lost her shit!!! But like a trooper she knuckled down and went for it.

At this point she realised the end was in sight and cracked a smile. 

With a smile on her face and a skip in her stride we made a beeline for the top taking in some beautiful scenery as we went.

So that was our little trip up South Wales Highest hill. A surprisingly steep 886m climb, covering over 4.5miles and taking 2 hours to complete.

The 3 of us really enjoyed it and I think I even heard the Wife say "we should do that again"...
