Tuning your (Metaphorical) Instrument

I hoped to make today a productive, social day. A some-kind-of-day. But when I woke up I felt like a phone I had forgotten to charge the night before. I could have pushed onward but instead I let the day fall apart and rolled around in bed all day watching movies and staring into space. I don’t feel bad about it.

We have dreams and goals and ambitions and we can tune ourselves to those, but then we go out into the world and face all kinds of conditions and surprises, both good and bad, countless people all tuned differently, and pushing their lives in their own directions either consciously or unconsciously.

Every once in a while we need to tune our own instrument. Imagine trying to do it while ten other people aren’t playing their instruments. We may be able to do it with a lover or a child around but then we are just tuning to their key. This is also valuable at times, but it’s not the same as tuning it on your own because you know best how you want it tuned...maybe just a bit higher or a bit lower. Perhaps the people around you are out of tune so it’s better to always give yourself a chance to find a quiet place to find yourself.

Today was one of those days. This might provide with some interesting material in the coming days though. I’m starting to feel energy flow through me again and expect tomorrow to be very different from today. See you then.

I could not agree with you more! No matter what type of personality you have, you sometimes need to take a day to yourself to recharge. As I am a very introverted person, I have learned to take time for myself as I need it, and not feel bad about it. It does not do me or anyone else close to me any good if I am constantly mentally drained.

I’m going to write more about introverted personalities, as I think it’s has more to do with being unable to find similarly tuned people than an aversion to being social...it’s hard to be social when others make you feel out of tune even when you are in tune.

I'm sure that is certainly part of it. I don't have a particular aversion to being social, I just find it to be mentally draining, with the need for a rather long recharge  in between socialising.
