Why I don't play any mobile games
I play a lot of video games - some people might say that I play too much of them for someone my age but it is how I like to spend my leisure time to anyone who wants to get judgmental about that can shut it because you're not the boss of me.

I have multiple consoles and a pretty great gaming laptop as well. I use them all on a regular basis. But one thing I have never gotten on board with was mobile gaming and there are some very specific reasons why that is the case.

Number 1: Small screen

No matter how big and advanced your mobile phone is, you are still going to be dealing with a very small screen and this is something I am just unwilling to tolerate. Perhaps it is because I already have some eye problems and I don't want to wear my glasses all the time. My job consists of staring at screens and I have gone out of my way and spent my own money (despite working for a company) to get huge monitors so that I don't need to strain my eyes and squint in order to see what is on the screen.

As TV's and resolutions get bigger and higher, I find gaming on a small screen to be not fun. I guess this is just a personal thing

Number 2: I don't buy expensive phones

Like most people, I don't just have all the money in the world. I am not poor, I live quite comfortably actually, but I can't just spend recklessly and even if I did make say, double what I do now, I wouldn't be spending $1000 on a phone. I can't really understand the mentality of people that do so. I can get a PS5 for $500 but the latest and greatest smartphone costs $1200? Yeah, I'm not gonna do that.

The best mobile games have hefty processing requirements and I more of a $200 phone type of guy. Therefore I am not even capable of playing the latest games anyway, so I don't even bother

Number 3: "Free games" are not free

There's an old expression that goes "There's no such thing as a free lunch" and I am a big believer in this. If any game says that it is "free" you can be guaranteed that there are microtransactions involved that are slowly but surely going to build up to the price of paying for said game. There is a reason why the most profitable games of all time are silly mobile puzzle games that people spent just a dollar at a time on.

I'm not the kind of person that would do that anyway, but the few times I did play mobile games the "paywall" feature became evident very quickly.

Number 4: The Social Aspect

I would say that in many ways that technology is kind of breaking down the fabric of society slowly but surely. A group of friends gets together only to sit around a table and all of them are just using their phones to talk to people that aren't even there. It makes me wonder why these people bothered coming out at all.

We spend entirely too much time on our phones anyway and I am one of those guys that will actually get on a friend's case if they are using their phone too much in my presence. There have been a number of times that I have been at a bar with a friend and the **entire time** he was playing UNO and occasionally talking to me and the others who were there.

I actually left without saying goodbye and asked told my other friends to let me know how long it took him to notice that I was no longer there, despite the fact that I was at the same table as him. They told me it took about 30 minutes and this guy is one of my best friends (so it's not like he doesn't like me or something)

This last reason is the main reason that I don't play mobile games and I with that a lot of other people felt the same way. Especially during Covid times, we get so little social time anyway, so why would you want to spend this time doing something that you can do at home for as long as you want?

It just doesn't make sense to me.

Don't get the wrong idea, if you like mobile gaming I am not saying you are wrong or that you are a bad person for doing so - it just isn't the way I choose to live my life. You do you, as they say but for me I keep my gaming at home on a big screen and I have no intention of ever changing that.
