His statement may sound true considering the majority of Christians who still believes that the glory of this world is of the Lord, they preach money, wealth, worldly dominion as if that was what God and his Christ has on the table for believers, these men glorifies the same things that the world glorifies, and many being deceived to believe that godliness is a means for worldly gain.

I refuse to be religious, I'll maintain an open mind so that my trust remains in the leading of the spirit than religious doctrines of men.

I'd just keep this in my heart and let Jesus shine through my life. 

And Christians need to start living like a _normal Christian_ despite the deranged persecution of others. 
Jesus already spoke of that.
"As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man."

Believers should not be worried or horrified. Time for spiritual battle.
