Cryptocurrencies are making history in Brazil.

If I (or any other Brazilian) still had any doubts about Brazil's interest in digital currencies, that doubt ended today after an event with historic potential happened. I am referring to an unprecedented measure that brought about the modification (in fact, an additional item) in the way of filing individual income tax returns as of this year, which is a permanent measure.

The measure was recently announced by the **Ministry of Economy** and is very explicit with regard to asking to the ***taxpayers to declare the cryptocurrency values*** of their wallets in the statements that will be sent to the country's **IRS**. There is a minimum value for this item to be mandatory, but what really caught people's attention was this great novelty in the annual tax returns.

According to the changes made by the IRS, the assets and rights file where taxes are declared is composed of three new codes, which were created exclusively for cryptocurrencies to be properly declared. This is a substantial change in the way of declaring taxes within the country and this is certainly causing a very interesting debate about the impact of cryptocurrencies here.

There are three divisions:

[Portal do Bitcoin](https://portaldobitcoin.uol.com.br/de-olho-nas-criptomoedas-receita-federal-cria-codigo-para-bitcoin-altcoins-e-tokens-no-ir-2021/)

81 - *Bitcoin*;
82 - *Altcoins, such as Ethereum, Bitcoin Cash, XRP, ChainLink and Litecoin*;
89 - *Other crypto, such as tokens*.

Although the matter has already been discussed a few times by government agencies, these measures are happening for the first time, because until then there were no codes that the IRS could classify or categorize these digital assets, and certainly "track" them throughout the territory national. The interest in cryptocurrencies is now more than real, it is immediate and urgent for the country's future interests.

81 - *Bitcoin*;
82 - *Altcoins, como Ethereum, Bitcoin Cash, XRP, ChainLink y Litecoin*;

Greetings @wiseagent. We could consider this a form of recognition of cryptocurrencies by the government, making it clear that they must adapt to this way of generating income by the population, certainly an important step.

Hello friend, I think that little by little every country is accepting this new change, definitely digital is gaining a lot of strength and against that they can't do much. For that reason I think it is easier for them to accept it. It is a great advance. Thanks for sharing it. Greetings!!!

Hi dear friend @wiseagent
I would not declare anything, I think that someone who declares their assets in cryptocurrency runs the risk of being robbed, the problem is that you can commit a crime if you do not do it, anyway.
