I took this photo on a gorgeous, beautiful, blue-sky-day. I was standing on the side of a mountain where a small little plateau formed a meadow of wildflowers. There were so many flowers and so many bees (in such a small area) that it sounded like a roaring river. Yes, I walked down in the middle of it! It was so powerful to be so close to their sound and movement. Definitely one of those moments that you want to hold onto. I knew I'd probably never have it again in exactly the same way with exactly the right conditions. One of my favorite days in recent years.
This is a female honey bee. The little sacs on her legs are called 'baskets'. To be more efficient in collecting nectar and pollen, she packs the honey and nectar into her little baskets to carry back to the hive to feed each of her offspring.

“A big bee, a golden furry fellow, crept into a freesia, and the delicate flower leaned over, swung, shook; and when the bee flew away it fluttered still as though it were laughing. Happy, careless flower!”
― Katherine Mansfield
