You are so welcome, Fiona.

I must confess that I have not read some of the literature that you have mentioned. I think I need to rectify that. The Huxley stuff sounds way ahead of its time. I have heard loose comparisons to Gattaca, a film that I have watched and enjoyed.

I read The Hobbit to Jamie when she was 7 -8. She did enjoy it but we never finished it. At 16, I'm not sure that I will convince her to read together again but that's ok. I molded her into a Star Wars/LOTR fan when she was 3, so I'll settle for that.

4 monarchs and 2 world wars! Perspective for even the most close minded of people. Infinite respect to her. I'm sure she had some amazing stories.

And both of us getting all choked up! A couple of emotional wet blankets together. lol

Btw, the beginning was a very good place to start, wasn't it! 😁

Keep being you!

No, I don't think reading aloud to a 16-year old is very age approriate, let alone welcomed on her part! lol. Huxley's *Brave New World* was waaay ahead of its time. Written in 1931 and then he revisited it in 1958 - in a non-fiction version. I actually think I should try to find and re-read it. As I recall, I read it either in my last year at school or at uni when I was fascinated with science fiction. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brave_New_World

Granny was full of stories. I am sad that I didn't know her as an adult. She visited SA once when I was 6, and never again. Although I did get sporadic letters from her, including one in 1976 when the beech tree at Kew split because of the drought. She used to wear a beautiful pendant - a beech leaf that had been dipped in copper.

>And both of us getting all choked up!

I'm getting softer as I age....lol

Brave New World
Brave New World is a dystopian novel by English author Aldous Huxley, written in 1931 and published in 1932. Largely set in a futuristic World State of genetically modified citizens and an intelligence-based social hierarchy, the novel anticipates huge scientific developments in reproductive technology, sleep-learning, psychological manipulation, and classical conditioning, that are combined to make a utopian society that goes challenged only by a single outsider. Huxley followed this book with a reassessment in essay form, Brave New World Revisited (1958), and with his final novel, Island (1962), the utopian counterpart. The novel is often compared to George Orwell's Nineteen Eighty-Four (1949).
