I have observed a definite and increasing capacity among young people to multi-task. However, this is often at the price of there being a shallowness of depth in their understanding of what they are doing, and a lack of recall as to what they have done.

The other thing that is notable, is an increasing inability to originate new material, cut and paste plagiarism remains in vogue. Add to that the general failure to edit material, and it's no wonder that most readers do not read beyond the first paragraph.

Multi-tasking comes at a price. Lack of depth. Equally it is increasingly true that readers seem to need very little to please them. Note the votes kitty pictures get. Also note that in-depth information is now easily available, and the truth is that outside of academic need, most people want a superficial, and entertaining read. It seems that written material is adapting to the multi-tasking needs of Internet generation.
