Wish someone would do the math on the amount of energy currently used by the institutions that blockchain has the potential to disrupt and replace.  Yes mining BTC to secure the blockchain uses power.  Do all of the world's banks, insurance agencies, accounting firms, mints, document storage and shredding companies and all of their associated skyscrapers, server farms, coffee makers and parking garages use any electricity? What about the commutes of their many millions of employees?   I bet BTC is an energy bargain in comparison.
