What a short strange trip it's been. Three months to be exact. This feels like a good time to access the state of this blog. Coming to Steemit, I had zero expectations. I knew I wanted to grow slowly, but steadily, for two reasons. One, I didn't want to be overwhelmed and two, I prefer quality over quantity. This is why I never buy or lobby for follows. This ensures more followers who read your writing and engage you in conversations. Some of my posts get more comments than people with ten times the number of followers. That's much more satisfying to me. Thank you to ***all*** of my awesome followers.

Blogging/writing is completely new to me. I've spent my time shooting and editing videos for Youtube. The urge to write was always there. But the right platform never really was. Until, I discovered Steemit that is. In fact, my first introduction to Steemit was on Youtube. A Steemit user had posted a video describing the basics. 

So, I created this account and quickly posted my first post. Not an introductory post. Just a post about [my cat and a catnip plant](https://steemit.com/animals/@omra-sky/my-cat-meets-a-catnip-plant-for-the-first-time). I didn't post my [awkward introduction](https://steemit.com/introduceyourself/@omra-sky/introduction-to-steemit-community) until two weeks later. During that two weeks, I observed, read a lot of post, and generally tried to learn as much about Steemit as I could.

I'm happy to say my initial experiences with Steemit have been mostly positive. If you dig enough, you can find some ugly stuff, but I'd rather focus on the positive side. Connections have already been made with people all over the world. Also, my writing seems to be improving. More importantly, though, I find writing more and more enjoyable. That was my biggest fear going into this. If Steemit feels like a job, I won't be here long.

Now, I have the same problem many people before me have faced and many after me will. Managing upvotes. That vote slider seems so far away. I *greatly* appreciate everyone who leaves a comment on one of my posts. I will definitely make an effort to reply to all comments, but I would also like to upvote all of the good comments, too. Of course, I also want to upvote the great material my new friends are producing. You also can't forget to look for random posts that are worth upvoting. 

While I'm still figuring out how to best manage my upvotes, I ask for your patience if I don't upvote you right away. If you're in the same situation as me, I know you'll understand.

At this point, it's time for me to decide where I want to go from here. A couple of people have commented on my lack of posting lately. There are many reasons for that, and most have nothing to do with Steemit. Let me assure you, I plan to post more often, I want to make this work, I want Steemit to succeed and be around for a long time.

Part of the problem stems from my inexperience with writing. As we go through life, we invariably develop habits, both good and bad. Since writing was never something I've done on a regular basis(only when inspired), daily writing is not a habit for me. I've heard it takes 21 days for your brain to make or break a habit. We'll see about that.

### So, these are my goals going forward:
- Continue to improve my writing skills.
- Write more often. Even if I don't post everyday, I want to write everyday, which will result in more posts.
- Continue to post about the following:
  - mystery/paranormal
  - humor
  - cooking/food
  - original/non-fiction writing. Basically, whatever I find interesting.
- Continue to make awesome new friends and help Steemit continue to grow in a positive direction.
- Figure out how to add animation to my posts without the glitches you see in the one above above.
