Well, no tree prefers poor clay soil, but I think this kind of tree tolerates the mucky clay better. Yes, underground clay takes a long time to dry out because there is less air space. That lime tree is totally different than how it used to look. I am amazed the pair survived after all the branches were removed. That was clearly not what I planned originally.
