Joe Joyce started the pay per view with a first round knock out of Joe Hanks. This bout was followed by Luis "King Kong" Ortiz stopping Travis Kauffman in the 10th round, followed by Jarrett Hurd's vicious body shot to Jason Welborn's abdomen to end their fight in the 4th round. Then followed what may be candidate for Boxing Fight of the Year for 2018, Deontay Wilder versus Tyson "Gypsy King" Fury. This was truly a twelve round thriller, ultimately left in the hands of three judges to decide the outcome of this fight when the fighters themselves could not do it. Both fighters started the match with punches from the start of the bell. There was no one or two rounds of feeling or sizing each other up before truly engaging. Fury came out jabbing and moving while Wilder came out swinging his hammer like punches. The bout was truly the boxer against the puncher, and it played out as such for most of the rounds. Fury frustrated Wilder with his feints, quickness and agility, followed up by jabs and power punches. Tyson Fury showed up to fight while demonstrating superb footwork for a man of 6' 9" stature. Wilder was clearly frustrated by his inability to solidly connect a power punch on Fury throughout most of the fight. Yet throughout rounds 1 though 8, there was no dominant fighter winning rounds. Rounds 1 through 8 were all very close rounds, with Fury showing his signature hand an foot speed, with the occasional taunts and bravado of the old Fury. Wilder for his part kept coming forward, kept looking for an opportunity to land that devastating overhand right or oft neglected left hook that has felled his prior 39 opponents. Then the tide turned in the 9th round when Wilder would land two sledge hammer punches to the side and top of Fury's head. Fury would later claim that they were to the back of the head, but in Wilder's defense, Fury turned his head when one of those punches was already in full swing, and the other landed on the top of his head when ducking. Fury was forced to his knee, waited for the count and then stood up before the referee could get to 10. The fight was back on, with Wilder trying to finish but Fury would not go back down in the 9th. Wilder was spent by now,. Fury's movement and now chin had kept him in this fight, and now it was his turn again. Wilder did nothing but regain his strength for the 10th round while Fury landed a few punches. Both threw a few more connecting punches for the 11th round, with Wilder slowly recouping his stamina and Fury still sticking and moving, showing a lot less fatigue than his opponent. Then in the 12th and final round, Wilder dug deep, sensing that the fight was close, much too close for his liking. Fury came out jabbing and moving, ducking as the over hand right from Wilder was thrown. This time Fury did not duck as far down as he had been all night, and Wilder threw his right hand power punch straighter than he had all night, making for a clean connection to the side of Fury's head. The giant of a man began to topple backwards, but Wilder was not done yet, for he followed his power punch with a devastating left hook to the other side of Fury's head, sending Fury down hard to the canvas. Fury lay flat out palms up on the canvass, but his eyes remained opened. Wilder did what I like to call his signature "Executioner Dance" thinking that this was it for Fury. Fury blinked when the count reached 6, and began to immediately rise much to the amazement of the near 18000 people at the Staples Center and one no longer dancing Deontay Wilder. The referee counted to 9 but Fury was up, talking to the referee, conveying his will to go on fighting. The referee asked Fury to move left and right. The ref saw that Fury was still good to continue, and Wilder came after him hard. Wilder was like a shark tasting blood in the water, seeking its prey, but Fury was not to be this shark's catch. Wilder again gassed himself out as Fury evaded most of the onslaught to end the 12th and final round. As the judges tallied their scores, many of the fans that sat around me were, like me unsure of the winner. There were many Brit fans sitting next to us, and they weren't too sure. There were many of Wilder's fan that weren't sure of the outcome either. When the draw was announced, there were some boos and grunts, but for the most part everyone seemed satisfied that neither boxer had truly out matched the other and a draw was fair. Since boxing scoring is quite subjective but based on a 10 point per round system, you can sometimes get boxing decisions that can seem to not fit the fight that was judged. In this case, their were some fight fans, including Fury himself, who thought the technical boxer, in this case Fury, should have been given the victory while other fight fans, including Wilder, believe that the power puncher with the two knock downs should have been given the decision. Since part of the scoring takes into consideration dominance, generalship of the ring, punches landed and aggression, a fight like Wilder vs. Fury, can be quite difficult to judge, with some rounds only being differentiated by one or two punches, no clear dominant round winner and both being aggressive in their own style of fighting. As they say, "boxing styles make fights," and these two drastically different styles from two very big heavy weights played out perfect, as neither style seemed to truly dominate the other, leaving many boxing fans with the unanswered question of who wins in the Wilder vs. Fury rematch. The Heavy Weight Boxing Division is back on the map!
12/03/2018
Full Steem Ahead!
@streetstyle

@jennimorillo Yes it is a dangerous sport for those in the ring. In fact, that night, at another event, Adonis Stevenson, was hurt and is now unfortunately in a coma. Prayers for him and his family.
