Definitely, you get curation from voting so your SP will always be growing even when you aren't watching it. I've heard that steemauto might move to a freemium service model so I wonder how things are going to change there, just hope creating curation trails costs some STEEM, as it would be the best for me since I don't really create trails.

For sure the could do that. The biggest winner of a curation trail is the curator and the author. Most of the time, the curator has the most steem power behind him, this way there are only small buts of dusts available for the followers of the curation trail! While I will not create a curation, nor I will follow one, I still hope that a curation trail will hit one of my posts :)
