40 miles is pretty impressive. I didn't go cycling for a long time, but I would give up after like 10 miles. Eventhough I live in an area that has lots of hills so it wears you down. By the way, that landscape is beautiful. I'd love to ride there in stead of cycling through plain streets.

Once you condition yourself, you could cycle 40 miles pretty easily. Especially if you are young... I try to stay away from cars, so it's the back streets and the foothills.
