The sun plays a part in the climate of course, but the human experiment with how much we can trash the planet has consequences too. Cannot blame the sun for putting plastic in the ocean or making air in cities toxic whatever the fossil fuel industries may say.

I just read a book about the sun and the magnetic fields are way stranger than you might expect.

I'm not saying it's not real, I'm saying it isn't responsible for the current state of the planet.

Focusing on the sun's cycles is a great way of saying *"oh well, there's nothing we can do about it, let's carry on fucking up the planet."*
