All summer, from early June to August, I periodically published articles about my trip to Cyprus in may this year. Now I have again appeared a bit free time, and I wanted to would to continue to do posts, so as told I far not about all our there adventures.

About the Museum "Thalassa", located in the center of the coastal town of Cyprus Agya-Napa, I have previously published an article, but then told only about the exhibitions dedicated to the sea and the history of this place. But now I want to tell you about the art gallery, which we found in one of the premises of the Museum.

When the main exposure with ships, fish and shells has been already viewed, and the pleasant impressions of the exhibitions has been learned, one is invisible with the mind of the hall caught my attention.

- Oh, paintings-exclaimed my daughter, and the first ran to see the work of local artists.

After it began to look at pictures of the Museum and we with the spouse.

Many of the works immediately struck by the uniqueness of the history. On most canvases there was an abundance of historical battle scenes. Perhaps the artists displayed some historical events of the ancient era of the island.

The history of Cyprus is closely connected with Greece, in fact, and the language here is one, and the customs of the peoples are similar. I immediately thought that it was necessary to study history better at school in order to somehow understand what is drawn in the pictures.

But if the subjects of the paintings I still could not understand something, the execution of many works seemed to me very strange. First, I did not understand on what many of them were executed. The Foundation was very smooth, like plastic, or hardboard, turned on the viewer with the smooth side. However, most of the paintings were still painted on canvas.

Secondly, the colors themselves also remained a mystery to me, because the inscriptions under the paintings were in Greek, which I, unfortunately, do not know.

In some places it looked like everything was painted with oil or tempera, but often there was a feeling that the work was done with glossy enamel from cans that paint the walls.

If we talk about the skill of local artists, there was a double feeling. On the one hand-no one has the right to tell the Creator in what manner to work and in what fantasies to soar, inspired by his personal attitude. And I can not say that my attitude to the work I saw caused me rejection.

But on the other hand some strange negligence exuded from every picture seen in the Museum. I have a completely somehow no desire to stay long in any particular job.

My wife and I puzzled considered the work for a few seconds, then moved on to the next. The eye had almost nothing to cling to. I took pictures, it was not forbidden. I did not turn on the flash, so all the works turned out in a kind of yellow scale.

However, yellow in the works of local artists and in fact most of all. Perhaps the artists are so influenced by the color of the local hills and deserts. There are very few trees on the island and the main color of the area is just yellow.

Still struck by what, drawing, draughtsmen seldom pay attention to details. The main contours and General features - here came the people. Even a few strokes - and here is already a whole crowd people.

Historical battle scenes are a small exception. There is a lot of work in terms of drawing scenes and individual soldiers. But if you look closely, they are still made about the way we draw children 12-14 years.

I must say, I am very restrained in my assessments. I try not to be critical of what I saw in the Museum, because creativity is always self-expression and freedom of imagination. But looking at the work of local artists, I could not help feeling that I am present at the exhibition of children's works.

With portraits things were better. Something I liked, although, perhaps, still none of the paintings I would not have hung in my house on the wall.

Only when we left the hall with the paintings and looked into the shop, located on the territory of the Museum, I noticed that the works sold there are much more interesting in content than those that we have just considered. For example, this bouquet on the background of gypsum bas-relief.

Or this picture, which depicts a lagoon with coastal houses and boats on the background of the azure sea.

Leaving the exhibition, I thought about the paintings that were sold in the Museum shop. And I even thought that the art of Cypriot artists is not so sad as it may seem at first glance.<eleganceSignature><center>
