C'est en 1482 que le shogun Ashikaga Yoshimasa a construit le pavillon d'argent pour en faire sa villa de retraite. Ce shogun était réputé pour ses goûts très raffinés. Après sa mort en 1490, l’endroit a été transformé en un temple zen. Voilà voilà ;-)

Oui, ce sont souvent des maisons construites par des shoguns, ou des personnes importantes. A leur mort elles ont été transformées en temples pour honorer leur mémoire. Mais il y a également des jardins qui ont été conçus à l'endroit où il y avait déjà un temple.
