Having to study the war on terror from a statist's perspective in university makes it even more clear how the war on terror will go on for a long time, and maybe can't even be won. The US is seen as an existential threat to the existance of armed groups such as the Taliban, and so these groups will prolong the fight as long as they can. Their motto is: "If we don't die, we win." And, as a Taliban fighter once said: "The Americans have watches, but we've got time."

Of course, the military industrial complex and the politicians also have an interest in prolonging the war, so it's a win-win for them as well.

I'd say the only way to stop the wars is to stop our governments ourselves. Maybe not through the voting booth, but more likely through activism, education and creating parallell financial infrastructure that makes the state obsolete and irrelevant.
