I can totally relate my friend.  I am getting ready to move into a cabin that is totally self sufficient.  It's a lot smaller than where I live now, so I have to get rid of a lot of furniture and "stuff" that no longer serves me.  As far as the "safety" issue, it's a tough move for me as I am single and live in a safe subdivision.  I will be literally moving to the forest...a forest with a an amazing view of the ocean.  lol
