I used to see people carrying weights/packages like these, often, years ago in Mauritius. Now, and if, I see women, in the poorer parts of Mauritius, take their linen wrapped in a bundle and stacked on their heads, walking to the river to wash their laundry. 
Seldom sight these days. For the better maybe? Then again, I wonder.💭
