Finally the Sun Comes Out in Big Island!

<p>Since my return to Big Island from my past trip going to Puerto Rico and Mexico City, the cloud cover and rain has been quite prevalent across the Hawaiian islands. We've been getting much more cloud coverage than usual, making me feel like I live more like in the Pacific Northwest of Seattle and Vancouver.</p>
<p>Since I live off grid, we have to watch our power consumption during the day and night. Usually, the pool pump will be turned off and if I really needed to do dishwasher or laundry, that the generator would be turned on during that time.</p>
<p>Unfortunately, for 5 days in row, we had no hot or warm water ... since the hot water is heated via sunlight. No direct sunlight, no hot water. At least the encatchment tank is completely full, so having natural rain water for drinking, showering, and washing is always plentiful.</p>
<p>The first crack of the sunshine today, Friday ... I jumped at the opportunity to go to Kehena Beach in Puna.</p>

What a beautiful place to live off grid, I would never imagine that lack of sunlight would ever be a problem in Hawai.  Credit to you for making the move, I really need to start moving in that direction and becoming self sustainable now.

Amazing, did or your parents decide to help you live off the grid in self sufficiency living?   I have been for 5 years or so I need to head toward less dependent on big companies like water, food and electricity... 
Glad sun came out for you....I remember now Hilo side was most of the time visited there was cloudy.
