Came to this post because it featured a nice chick and the tag was highqualityshitpost . I had to look! What you say about communities is right! I recently replied to @timcliff's initiative for platforms and applications built on and around steemit. And while doing that, couldn't help but mention some changes for steemit too. Communities was at the top of my list. While the basic tags work fine to define most posts, the common themes such as travel, photography are quite saturated with posts and lowqualityshitposts that it is really messy. Not only should you have communities, but there should be a process to be part of one. Say I write a lot of travel posts, and I like to join the community, basically my request should be manually approved by someone who checks my feed to check whether it has quality content or not, or is it worth approving my request to join the community. This way, we can keep community content clean and fresh while the lowqualityshitposts keep themselves to themselves.

Great! I was hoping to catch some people in the act! You can be decent and still a bit shallow sometimes, I think we all are! Best to admit it! It seems changes will come soon enough. Right now I can only do what I can do, I try to support and grow my own community while helping others do the same. Good idea!

I also agree with your idea of making communities with exclusive tags for them. Will be a little hard to monitor content on them, but it works in a rudimentary way.

That seems like a form of censorship and seems to go against the spirit of Steemit. Moderators would be the way to go...

Moderators would be one way. I think the problem is that once something is posted on the blockchain, it remains there forever. So sometimes I feel that the community page can have a shit load of lowqualityshitposts which cannot be removed. It is not exactly censorship, but more about being able to have good quality content in a community. Once people know about the benefits of being in a community (higher upvotes, more comments, feedback etc), I feel that they would add more effort to join a community and improve their posting too. The trash will always stay trash. But good quality content will rise above. @mikeycolon, @whatamIdoing, what do you folks think?

🤔 Touche - you have a good point there that I doesn't consider. Hmm... Back to the proverbial drawing board...

I've thought about people abusing our tags...I wouldn't want to resort to flagging because I think it creates animosity but its another way to go about things. I'm not really a fan of moderators even though I am one in our chat room, I try not to play the mod. I think we can do both, discord is really where the steemit community is at.
