Ich weiß was Raw ist wenngleich ich kaum damit arbeite. 

Mir reichen schöne Fotos. Der Rest interessiert mich nicht. 

Vielleicht aber sollte ich meine Cannbispflanze mal in RAW aufnehmen um zu sehen welch ein Unterschied das ausmacht.

Ja, mach mal ein paar Fotos in RAW und JPEG. Dann arbeitest du das RAW aus und vergleichst beide Versionen. 
Ein JPEG ist bereits von der Kamera je nach deinen Einstellungen fertig entwickelt und komprimiert. Viele Anpassungen sind nachträglich nicht mehr möglich, ohne die Qualität eher zu verschlechtern. Sofern du die richtigen Einstellungen gemacht hast, kannst du aus einem RAW noch alles rausholen. Versuch mal ein unterbelichtetes JPEG aufzuhellen und dann mach das gleiche mit dem RAW ;)

Ich werde es sicherlich probieren.

Muss aber erst einmal sehen mit welchem Programm ich RAW bearbeiten kann unter Linux.

RawTherapee habe ich unter Windows schon ausprobiert - ist zwar schon ein paar Jahre her, aber es kann sich nur verbessert haben und es soll zu den besten kostenlosen gehören: https://rawtherapee.com/
RAW ausarbeiten ist natürlich mehr Arbeit, aber für mich unverzichtbar geworden. JPEGS lasse ich die Kamera zwar auch machen, aber diese habe ich nur, damit ich die Fotos schnell am Rechner durchschauen zu können, ohne Lightroom oder Photoshop zu bemühen.
