Greetings to you all my friends here in steemit. Trust you are all doing great? Welcome to another episode in this contest of @learnwithsteem. Through this post, I will like to tell us how I learned to make handkerchief. Hope you will like to learn from me.

HOW I LEARNED HOW TO MAKE IT

Dear friends, you will be surprised at how I got to learn this skill by the time I narrate it to you. 
I am such a person that like learning new things to the best of my abilities. With this in mind, my ears are always attentive to opportunities to learn. Most times I learn in other to make use of it personally, or to transfer the knowledge to my kids, perhaps they can make a living with it or I learn to use it to take care of my family if I make money from it. The person that thought me how to make this handkerchief was unknown to me back then about 4 years ago.

On a very good day, I went to the market for transactions. That day, customers were much and so I joined the cue to wait for my turn. As I was there, standing with other customers, I overheard two ladies discussing how they have been managing since they couldn't get any job  since after they left school. They seem to be very good friends. So along the line, one of them told the other person that she had been producing and selling handkerchief. The other one was surprised to here that such thing can be produced. I too that overheard them was also surprised because I have never for one day see where it was being produced or even heard about it. So as she went closer to the friend to show her some samples from her phone, I joined the conversation. I asked if I could see and she showed it to me. I liked what I saw. I told her to give me her number. But I didn't let her know then that I would like to learn. After my transactions, I left.

The next day,  I called her and complemented her hand work. I then asked her if it will be possible for her to teach me. Without hesitation, she accepted. We then arranged on what it will take for me to learn it and when. I was so excited. On that very day we scheduled, I went to her an egg she first took me to the market to buy the materials, after that we went to her house and I was taught on how to do it. Just a day.  Every other thing I needed to learn was done through phone calls.  That was how I learned how to make  handkerchief. I then started it.  But along the line, I faced some challenges which my mentor also told me about it.

# <center>THE CHALLENGES </center>

There is nothing that is done on earth that comes without challenges. The with with the production of handkerchief. Below are some of the challenges I encountered in course of my journey in making handkerchief :

Where to get the material in large quantity and at a lower rate . This was a problem when I wanted to supply to the shops and supermarkets. The particular material that I use for it is not readily available in the market. I was constantly looking out for where I can buy them in large quantities such that I can always have it available whenever it will be demanded by my customers.

Disappointments from the person that does the weaving for me. By then that I started newly, I had someone that my mentor introduced me to that usually weave the materials for her. But she is always very busy that it will take ages to get my own ready as at when due. I was always at her Mercy.

Poor power supply for ironing . Power supply was always epileptic. And this business requires constant light for ironing.

Low pricing in the then city of my residence,  due to the high quality of the material I buy for the handkerchief, it was usually higher in price when compared to the ones in the market coupled with the fact that I buy in small quantity. I couldn't make much sales as a result.  just to mention but a few.

The business is seasonal. It only moves well during dry season. Other seasons, nothing much. 
I was discouraged then. 

# <center>BETTER DAYS </center>

A glimpse of hope came when I husband introduced it to his clients in another city where he works. People from the comes to Aba, the commercial hub of the state Abia to buy goods for resale,  so they were happy to buy at the price I gave them. That was when I knew that I can make something out of it. I then started with it.

We later moved to my present city of residence just in 2019 January.  I then started scouting for new customers. I was able to get customers who buys at a good price but I was not meeting up due to high cost of weaving here. And two the same problem of getting my job done when I need it. 

</div>

At a point, I decided to save up some fiat money to enable me buy the weaving machine. Thank goodness, i was able to achieve that. But we were formally living, there was hardly light. Any day they will bring it, I must be at night. I will have to wake up to weave. Or I buy fuel and run generator. You know what it means for a baby business. Until we moved to a new place where there is constant light somehow. I still have other challenges that are yet to be solved, and that is how i can source the material at a cheater rate and at all times. Anyone with a useful information should let me know. I need pure cotton white and check (colors) materials. Whether here in Nigeria or elsewhere in the world.

At this juncture friends, I will like to stop here. But I have another episode which Is how to produce handkerchief. I will teach us the processes  involved in producing handkerchief. Please friends, I believe this world is a school and everywhere you find yourself is a classroom and whoever you meet can be your teacher. Grab every opportunity. Have the knowledge if you can whether you will use it or not. Little wonder that even in the universities, we have courses that are borrowed. Let's be smart.
