Just like you, I don't really care so much about politicians/politics…policy, on the other hand, is important.  And good policy in Europe, is a united Europe.   Europe has had about 1,600 years of competing European alliances and wars…since the fall of the Roman Empire.  

And this is the first time, in that 1600 years, beginning in 1990, with the help of NATO, the European continent has been united enough to decrease the probability of a “Intra-Euro War” (European states fighting against each other).

You only have to go back 80 years and two generations, some of those folks are still alive today,  to appreciate the death and devastation that a fragmented European continent can bring.  

Humans can do awful things to each other when they're not cooperating.   We're not the top species on the planet because we're nice.   So it is very important to encourage the better angels of our nature.   Being united, cooperating, being nice to each other, is extremely important for progress.   I just hope we haven't forgotten that yet.

Electing moderate politicians that are not populists is really important.   Long may it be that way in the EU, the US and everywhere else.
