Despite the growing trend towards online selling, and virtual stores - I think we will see always a place for physical stores and actual sales people. For some products the visual presentation and description on a web site will never match seeing the physical object and getting an in person demonstration of it working. An online presence might help people find your product, but a physical location they can visit and see it working is still an essential tool to finalise a sale. An interesting point on Books and Amazon, I sell physical books from a world renowned Barista and Coffee Roaster - I asked why he only sells his books in physical hard back - and never e-books - digital books to download which would save on the cost of manufacture and shipping around the world. The reason he said is control - with an e-book it is too easy to copy and the revenue he might get from sales is lost when it is shared for free. By only selling physical hard back books he ensures continued sales. Online marketing is the future, but it will always need to be backed up by physical products and the ability to try - sample and compare the product in the real world. It is true about the control part. imagine if one does not have a hard copy of property and assets and a hacker just steals it all. It is terrifying. Also, reading from actual books is a great experience.

Yes, I completely agree with your points @c0ff33a. The online marketing can never completely overtake physical marketing. But we are definitely seeing a strong inclination towards online marketing which in a way or other disturbs physical marketing. A small grocery store near my house is going to run in loss gradually as the online grocery stores and free home delivery options are increasing.
