Job interview tips

Hi friends and readers,

Last week I helped interview a couple of aspirants of a job position. In this process I'm started to learn how to measure of knowledge of that person specially in the technical area that is required for the job position. Before starting to give few technical tips I would like to start to my first tip for any job interview.

- Mind the time of your interviewers that means working hard to improve your CV. Every country and culture will have a different version on how to create a CV.
- Create a short and specific version for the desired job position. If you are applying to certain role, focus on the skills you have that are required for that position.
- Be honest, its ok not to know something but never lie about things to get the job offer.

<h3>Technical tips</h3>
- If you have to write some code, an example etc. Do your best to impress the interviewers, it does not have to be the greatest code, but show confidence in your code. Make sure is easy to understand and try to apply best practices.
- If you are using a version control system, make sure the commits history is readable. Add self explain commit messages and add them as you are actually coding them.
- Make sure to understand what you are doing and try to explain the code to someone else before the interview.

<h3>Don'ts</h3>
- Copy and paste code
- Leave stack-overflow pages as references in the code or in the browser if you are sharing screen.
- Use what you understand and try not to use 'proprietary' code or old projects 'code' that might not be necessary.

I'm saying this because I guy that I believe could've get the job missed the chance because a few mistakes that he could avoid.

It's ok to make mistakes but try not to do them in an interview that will get you a job.

Excellent list. The one thing I like about your post is that you used the word confidence. Confidence in abilities and concrete examples to back up your claim of expertise is key, as you point out. I've been on more than a few interviews and people respond to creative ways of thinking in the technical world. Every technical area (coding, engineering, etc.) has tried and true ways of going about solving issues. Every potential employer likes it when something is presented that shows a slightly different level of consciousness.

Absolutely I believe that you have to prove that you can do it rather than just saying it I will do it, most of the time when a code example is required will either give the job position or make the interviewer move to the next candidate.
