I couldn't agree more. the last dog and cat i owned where adopted and rescued. its so much better than buying from a puppy or kitten farm. especially when it comes to mature animals as they have so much trouble finding homes. Keep up the good work being an awesome human!

Well said.  We now have 3 cats and 1 dog, all rescued animals.  The only way to go.

Wow. "Tiny little dogs being sold for $3,000. " what a scary price.  Man finds Avenue at even places where there is none to display his wickedness.  It really pains me how many are destroying our ecosystem all because they want to make some few bucks. Hi @Fitgirl, I think you're doing an important thing, sharing your experience adopting animals from a shelter. My roommate and I adopted this lil cutie Meowzer from the humane society in Boulder when we lived there. She had been abandoned in a ditch on the side of the highway, and even so, she's been the perfect cat.

Pedigree dogs are the most expensive and to create one the procedures are awful . All the breeding is disgusting

This is a great reminder for everyone who is thinking about getting a pet and I thank you for this post.  I have had pets my whole life and they have all been rescued.  I hate the puppy mills.  Thanks once again for this important message.  Riley is adorable!

Love this! I used to go to pounds all the time with my ex. I had to stop..too difficult. Over breeding needs to stop, but absolutely adopt!!! Great post! Following. Keep it up! :)

Cat lady alert.. Just kidding I can't agree more with you. I have never owned a cat or dog from a pet store, all my pets was either runaways or from the animal shelter. 

I see it a saving a life instead. Pet store are mostly just overpriced and worry more about making money than the actual well-being of the animals.

Good on ya @fitgirl for speaking up for animals. I can't understand when some people just don't care about animal welfare. It's not hard to understand that animals also have emotions. We got out little Chihuahua from an animal shelter and she's the world to us. I'm now trying to get an animal charity to open up an account on Steemit as they depend solely on donations from their Facebook page.

I used to do puppy mill rescue. Any true animal lover should steer clear of pet stores.🐶

Difficult to fight Greed, if no one Buys the Puppy , will it end up at a Shelter?
Your Heart is in the right Place. We have 6 dogs and 2 Cats , But unfortunately the 2 Bull Terriers have to be kept in a cage ( a very large Area) as when I got them at 2 years old , they had never been socialised. If I let them out , we would very rapidly only have 2 dogs!

In my opinion people should get punished for selling animals, on a similar level like mentraders! This must stop :(

Great post! People need to focus more on those furry little friends who keep getting forgotten. The kitty in your picture doesnt seem half as happy as you, did you disturb him/her during their nap? :)
