I was asked about a year ago if I was ready to be a grandma and I honestly answered no.

You see I have six kids ranging from 26 years old down to 11 years old. My 11 year old daughter and my 14 year old son keep me young. Don't get me wrong I know I am a 47 year old women but when you do the crazy fun things I do with my younger kids I have a tendency to forget how old I am. I don't feel old and I pray it will be a long time before I do. I promised myself to play till I die just like a little Mario figure in the game he just keeps going and going. 

So back to the question of being a grandma well I said no with confidence because I honestly didn't think there was going to be any grandchildren on the near horizon wow was I wrong. I thought this with an honest mind because my married son and wife didn't want any children yet but funny how God has different plans for us. I remember the night my son called me he didn't waste any time on the phone he said guess what you are going to be a grandma. Well like a dummy I said really how that happen. My son laughed and said really mom? I quickly back pedaled and said oh my wow congratulations. My son laughed and said "you are not ready to be a grandma mom are you?" I said to him no but I will be. I quickly reinforced that I was extremely happy and excited. He got off the phone with more confidence in me than what I felt.

After the phone call I just sat then I prayed and asked God to get me ready. I didn't know how I was going to face being a grandma I wasn't ready to feel old. I then sat and thought about my grandma and how wonderful she was to me and I then vowed to be the best grandma ever so I could carry on my grandma's legacy.

Nine months passed real quickly and I got invited to stay with my son and daughter and wait till the baby arrived. Well on August 27 I was woken from my sleep in the wee hours of morning we rushed down to the hospital to find that she was indeed in labor. The labor did not go well and she ended up having a c-section but in the end we had a healthy mom and a beautiful baby boy.

The first time I held Matias my heart swelled and the tears flowed. I looked at my son who was beaming with the biggest smile and quivering with excitement and I knew life couldn't get any better. 
My little boy grew up in an instant in front of my eyes and I was so proud of him. Nothing can describe watching your own become  a parent for the first time. In my sons face I saw the love and the protectiveness that I felt when I first held him. I looked down into that beautiful baby boys face and knew that I was grateful that I was a grandma. The love I felt was undescribable and I made a promise that i would be there for him no matter what. I was a grandma I now belonged to the exclusive grandparents club and I am excited.
