My opinion is that it helps, if you purpose every day when you wakevup. No matter how small or silly it may seem, just getting up with the purpose of feeding your fish or your cat. Or writing a poem, a song, a good steem post that would maybe save somebody's life someday on the other side of the world. You never know. Small steps. Not letting the depression taking away your sense of purpose and meaning and that you are needed somewhere and by someone or something. Of course, if it's a medical condition, there is no way you can't get by it without some professional help, but for most people purpose and meditation helps a lot. I know it does for me, when I'm feeling down.

Caring what other people think, well that's a whole other chapter about self-esteem which I will avoid since I would probably sound like a stoned hippie. But yeah life gets hard sometimes for all of us, there's no way around it. I try to take the hits positively, even if I wanna smack them in someone's face sometimes, when they drop that: ''Everything happens for a reason'', line.

Good topic though @yallapapi
