The only type of genetic engineering I would find acceptable is that of editing out genes related to inheritable diseases. And even that could lead to abuse. Sure, using less energy and living longer sounds really nice, but I don't think it would be used for our benefit. If you have in mind something like going into retirement fit and healthy and enjoying those extra years, I'm afraid that's utopia. What you would be allowed is be fit to work for more years and retire like at 75, maybe even 80.
