WHO AM I?

WHO WILL I BE? years from now...

Two questions almost all people have asked themselves at some point and/or attempted to answer, even though these are the wrong questions to ask and I hope, after reading this, you will never again spend a split-second thinking about them.

Human beings seem to have a hard-wired “meaning making” mechanism that judges almost everything. One of the first words that children learn, and then keep repeating, is “why.” We need to understand what is happening, analyze it and understand the why, so we can better judge the effect it might have on our lives... and essentially that is a good thing. However the answer to your why is often very simple..

http://i.quoteaddicts.com/media/q2/1014963.png

We humans, unlike any other living being have been given an insane ability, known as: choice!

A tree doesn't have choice. It is "born", it naturally grows every single day and without a question... until it has reached its full potential.

We are humans, we are able to make decisions based on our thoughts, we are able to decide where we are going, what we are saying and what we are doing every single day. We can base our actions on a conscious decision, a reason. And that is the second insane ability:

reasoning!

Even though our environment, people and surroundings have manipulated our pure thoughts, we are if strong enough able to gain back that control, understand and distinguish between our own thoughts and those that have been sneaked into our brain, those that have created patters of thoughts and limitations to what we can do. Sometimes our rational thinking is manipulated as well, and we fall for it over and over again. Here's an example:

I believe that the biggest lie of all time, every person including YOU has spoken or at least thought before is:

I CAN'T...

https://quotefancy.com/media/wallpaper/3840x2160/1764362-Irvine-Welsh-Quote-You-can-t-lie-to-your-soul.jpg

I want you to think right now of the last time those thoughts have sneaked into your mind. Was it this morning when you told yourself you CAN'T get out of bed? (and yet you did) or when you convinced yourself that you CAN'T go to the gym today, or get the work done you've been trying to get done for weeks, today? (and you really didn't).

The famous "I can't" lie is the downside of our gift "reason". Because we are such great thinkers, we are the best at finding good enough reasons (excuses) to trick our own mind into buying it. It's stupid when you think about it, but it's so true and also the first step towards CHANGE! Because if you've never thought about it before that you are actually in charge of yourself (including your life), then that most likely creates the No.1 pain point in your life which is: not knowing WHY. It bothers us to not know and it's also sad, because it creates it creates helplessness.

So let's take this opportunity to uncover the question as to "why you are where you are" by first of all looking at "who you are".

https://johnrchildress.files.wordpress.com/2016/04/quote-robert-half-asking-the-right-questions-takes-as-much-17315-e1459787189212.png?w=474&h=158

Spoiler: There is no answer, because if you take a look at the question, it doesn't make much sense:

"Who AM I" comes from "to be", simple present tense and describes you at a particular moment. When you say "I am tired" you actually mean "I feel tired at this moment". Sounds obvious, but because of behavior and phrases such as the mentioned, in our subconscious mind we start to believe and identify with those moments. If somebody was to ask you "who are you?" after you had a bad day you will define yourself according to your negative mood. On the flip side, the next day, when you feel great and have achieved a milestone in your life, you will define yourself based on that state you're in.

That is a problem, because if you try to define yourself, that would suggest that

you are STATIC, because a definition doesn't change!

But we know that LIFE ISN'T STATC! We are constantly changing and moving, even if it doesn't feel like it and we only see the change, in comparison to the past. You are changing every micro-second of the day even in this exact moment. It's kind of like when you look at a loading bar and it feels like forever, tiny progress..

... until it's at 100%

Then you realize, THAT WAS FAST! I hope by now you are convinced that the question "who am I?" is as good as asking "what time is it the whole day?". Life is pretty straight forward and when you begin to ask the right questions, you receive life-changing answers.

Moving on to the second ridiculous and most easy to answer question:

WHO WILL I BE? ... I am going to answer this questions with the real question, and only question you should have been asking yourself and from now on

hopefully will ask yourself every single day:

WHO AM I BECOMING?

... What are you doing every day and what are you consuming? How many hours are you a creator and how many a consumer? What does your daily routine look like and what are your habits?

Most people have an idea of who they think they want to be, but for some odd reason believe that turning this vision into reality, has nothing to do with them and disconnect it from their daily actions.

Faith is good, but not enough. Actions are what matters. Sometimes it's difficult for us to see the bigger picture and think about your future self looking back at the past, when you are in 2037. Believe it or not, but time is constantly passing and you are most likely to not remember today, or this month, or this year. You won't remember pain, how tired you felt, only as vague memory, you might smile at a picture of you and your friends having the best time, and re-feel some of that joy, but what you will remember most are KEY decisions that you made that have brought you to where you stand today (year 2037) and you will look back and either see how YOU have shaped your life or how you let your manipulated thoughts and short-term thinking shape your world. Either way it was your decision.

Make the most of every day, squeeze out everything, do not leave a single regret behind and be aware that you have the power of choice and changing the course of your life! Lastly let me answer another question most people ask: "How do I live a happier life?" Answer: Think about what makes you happy and do more of that and less of what doesn't serve you. It sounds simple, but most of the time people give away their hours like their free coupons (more about time as the most valuable currency you have, I wrote here).

Ask yourself every day "WHO AM I BECOMING?", because there is no "who you are" and your answer to the question is who you are going to be.

Make the decision to match your actions every day accordingly. Hold yourself accountable, by documenting your progress at the end of each day and make sure that the reason WHY you're doing what you are doing brings you joy and serves a greater good.

Oh and next time you catch yourself trying to consider buying the "I can't" lie, remind yourself: Your physical body is capable of waaaaay more than you know, you are not your body, it's your tool with a separate mind and it's your up to you to gain control and do your future self the favor of using it for what you truly and honestly want in life, from life and for who you want to BECOME.

Your thoughts are always appreciated! :)
