haha I can imagine that. CS geek guys are in general so socially inept. I can imagine that is why there were no girls in the major when I was there and from what I read still very few today. It's worse in Japan. But at the same time, most of the worst of them in Japan just give up and start "dating" anime pillows or mousepads with breasts. 

I did work a kind of direct IT or fixit guy job during uni. It wasn't challenging nor well paid, which is why I switched to programming after graduating, but at the same time it was nice being on a first name basis with everyone at the company and there was a feeling that I was really helping out as I fixed everyones' problems. They were running a complex system. An old mainframe with dumb terminals all over and also all the modern PCs were networked. I miss that job sometimes. 

Yes, us quiet computer geeks are full of all kinds of info. Some of it actually useful. I can imagine you get all kinds of interesting conversations by pestering them. 

I can see Dune being rough to get into these days. I have the same problem with pretty much every book these days: I get distracted by details and want to go look them up on Wikipedia or I want to go write on something I read. This is partially why I bought a Kindle a few years ago. Not being able to instantly change to the internet helps me focus on the book.
