They obviously think themselves above the rest of us, to the point where some even declared themselves almost God-like. This belief leads to a lack of empathy, and concern for other's well being, and a belief that they are perfect and know what is best for their country.

Due to this, and the obvious risks that being a cruel dictator carries (assasination attempts and so on) I think many have exhibited extreme paranoia. Employing food tasters, body doubles and other signs of a highly paranoid mind (sometimes with good reason) are common amongst dictators.

Many dictators could be described as highly vindictive. Ordering executions over relatively minor indiscretions is a hallmark of a cruel and vindictive dictator.

I would guess that most dictators would be fairly extreme sociopaths. Murders, assasinations and so on are stock in trade for most aspiring dictators, and that cold and uncaring attitude to human life is an obvious mental disorder.

These to me seem the most obvious common traits of many dictators. I have absolutely zero qualifications in this field, this is just my opinion.

" |
