Well at least that is what the headline says and will be what everyone accepts as the truth because they likely wont read the article as is tradition with social media these days.

In a truly irresponsible headline by *Business Insider* they once again show that they are yet another agency in the long list of companies in the media that have no interest in actually giving the public actual information but rather, they make a headline, then completely speculate about information to back up said headline.

*Business Insider* is in the process of rebranding, choosing to simply call themselves *Insider* since they have discovered that BS news gets more clicks than actual news about boring business.  This transition comes after several years of reporting about mostly social issues and all but completely leaving a "business" side of things out of their stories.

[This completely irresponsible and nefarious article](https://news.yahoo.com/minneapolis-umbrella-man-smashed-windows-191849770.html) leads with the headline "Minneapolis 'Umbrella Man' who smashed windows during George Floyd protests was a white supremacist trying to incite riots."   

While they do mention inside the article that they don't actually have any idea who the person is, the damage is already done in the headline.

You may recall this viral video of a man dressed all in black, carrying an umbrella, calmly walking up and smashing the windows of an auto parts store before again, calmly, walking away.  Previously, it had been speculated by *Business Insider* that he was a government operative, but now he is a Hell's Angel white-supremacist, I think because the government operative narrative didn't stick.

They try to paint the picture that this one person kicked off the rioting and looting that resulted in many buildings including a police station being burned to the ground yet completely ignore the fact that all of these things had already been going on for many hours prior to the "umbrella man" incident.

Reporter (and I use that term loosely,) Haven Orecchio-Egresitz fills the *Business Insider* article with almost zero confirmed facts and instead presents her own opinions and speculations as if they were facts.  This is a common trend with the vast majority of media outlets these days.  I can guarantee this headline will end up on FB and will be treated as truth despite the fact that anyone with a semi-functioning brain who bothers to read the article can see that they don't actually have any idea who the guy is.  

In an attempt to be fair to her, she is paraphrasing an article previously written by a *Star Tribune* reporter who he himself used the same ambiguous information and attempts to present it as fact.  I am certain that she would use this as a defense for her fallacious article should she ever be questioned about it - which she almost certainly wont.

Other "business articles" that Haven has written include the rarely-read-by-anyone hits of 

* "Animal rescuers want to know who keeps leaving pillowcases full of snakes outside a UK fire station"
* "Chinstrap penguins are starving to death in Antarctica as the temperature hits record highs."
* "One surprising byproduct of the coronavirus outbreak? Virus-themed Etsy crafts"

There is no doubt in my mind that the business world was on the edge of their seats while reading all this incredibly relevant and useful information.  

Unfortunately, this horrible practice of presenting a headline that the body of the article in no way backs up is probably going to get her more attention than her previous articles and therefore, she will continue down this dark path of fake news.  

Haven, your past articles were stupid because they have no relevance to the company you are employed by, but at least they were honest.  By using these tired and easily identified deceitful tactics you have officially left the world of journalism and entered the very crowded and ever-growing world of....
