Hello @wilx,
Did you know it's illegal for the US embassy to be anywhere *except* Jerusalem? It was signed into LAW in 1995.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jerusalem_Embassy_Act
>The Jerusalem Embassy Act of 1995 is a public law of the United States passed by the 104th Congress on October 23, 1995. It was passed for the purposes of initiating and funding the relocation of the Embassy of the United States in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, no later than May 31, 1999.
>Sec. 3. Timetable.
(a) Statement of the Policy of the United States.—
(1) Jerusalem should remain an undivided city in which the rights of every ethnic and religious group are protected.
(2) Jerusalem should be recognized as the capital of the State of Israel; and
(3) the United States Embassy in Israel should be established in Jerusalem **no later than May 31, 1999.**
Every president has had to sign a 'Presidential Waiver' *every 6 months* to 'suspend' the enactment of the LAW due to 'national security interests'. It's been waivered again and again and again every 6 months since 1998.
>Sec. 7. Presidential Waiver.
(a) Waiver Authority.—
(1) Beginning on October 1, 1998, the president may suspend the limitations set forth in section 3(b) for a period of six months if he determines and reports to Congress in advance that such suspension is necessary to protect the national security interests of the United States.
(2) The President may suspend such limitations for an additional six month period at the end of any period during which the suspension is in effect under this subsections if the President determines and reports to Congress in advance of the additional suspension that the additional suspension is necessary to protect the national security interests of the United States.
What a loophole!
May 31, 2017 Donald Trump signed the Presidential Waiver to suspend the enactment of the LAW for an additional 6 months... it was a very disappointing event, considering he ran saying he would move the embassy.
So, here we are again, six months later. Will he sign the 'waiver' like every president has done? It's a time honored tradition at this point... saying we need an additional 6 months to sort this out. Really? It's going on 20 years now!!!!
