This is definitely about more than gas tax. Luke from *We Are Change* did a video interview with a local in Paris last weekend during his coverage of the protests, and as the anonymous source explained it is indeed about much more than the gas tax, more than just Macron even, but about 40 years of the "banking sector taking over the country" among other things. The people are tired of not having a voice and of the rich getting richer at the expense of the poor and middle class getting poorer. It seems to be a true popular revolt against the oppression of the global banking elite and their puppet Macron... Interview below:
