Medicine has always been "fighting fire with fire" when treating diseases (or δ»₯ζ―ζ»ζ―, same philosophy). Antibiotics are used by fungi in nature to do precisely that, kill things they don't want around them. Not trying to downplay the significance of the correlation, but it should not come as a huge surprise. They are like any other drugs, "overdose" will cause problems.
