What a treat finding old buildings having new life breathed into them @papilloncharity that is a magnificent restoration! Sadly our rail system has disappeared with only a couple of routes on specific days still running _(at a price)_. We enjoyed travel by train in fact it was the only way holidaying was accomplished as a family when I was young.

@joanstewart Ironically I was placed at 1SAI in Oudtshoorn during my army days and twice had the honor of travelling on the 3day milk train to and back from Johannesburg. 3days there with a 3 day return, as the milk train stopped at every station. How well do I remember the sweet sound of a steamer's horn and at night the clickety clack that puts one to sleep. So sad that all of this is no more Lady Joan. So very sad! Blessings!

Longest journey we undertook as a family (4 children) Johannesburg- Salisbury-Bulaway-Vic Falls-Bulawayo-LM Mozambique then all the way home again if I remember correctly it took 3 weeks. 3 day stop off at Vic Falls and 2 days in LM (Mozambique) that was back in 1963/64 December school holidays. Very brave parents 😊 Looking back now I sometimes wonder how they managed with 4 brats on trains as well as they did.
