I was crawling around (literally :D) on the forest floor, yesterday seeing many beautiful things as well. It's so rejuvenating, isn't it?

The colors of those dark, leathery, veiny leaves are fantastic! Is the first shot of a mushroom? A seed pod?

It is a gall nut, probably made by a gall wasp called Cynips quercusfolii, like these:

Insects cause them; their eggs are in it. There's a rather nice variety (different wasp called Cynips longiventris) on oak trees as well:

There are many others.

Rejuvenating? Yes, but sore knees nonetheless 8-).

A nut was my next guess but I had no idea they were made by insects. Thanks for the extra added information. In that last shot, is that ice or water droplets?

Take care of those knees!

@ocrdu ·
Ice.

The insects don't make them, they trick the tree into growing them, chemically, I suppose. Strange and weird stuff 8-).
