Is it Important to Keep Politics out of Business?

When you are selling a house, the best option is to keep the design neutral to attract the widest range of buyers. There may be some exceptions to this when selling extremely unique homes, but for most houses, the best bet is to be neutral.

Something else you may notice is that big businesses stay neutral. Do you see Google, Amazon, Microsoft or any other major company take sides on politics or more importantly use politics in there marketing? Almost never. Those companies learned that the best way to sell their goods is to appeal to as many people as possible. If you take sides on politics, you are severely limiting your market. About 40 percent of the population will dislike the message. Even when Trump has a personal grudge against some companies, those companies do not retaliate publicly.

## What can others learn about marketing from the big companies? ##

Anyone who is trying to sell something, or gain clients, should be careful about what they say about politics. I see real estate agents, investors, lenders, and many other professionals posting about politics on Facebook, Twitter, etc.

They may feel like they are doing good, or helping the cause. What is happening is the people who agree with them chime in, a few may disagree publicly, but many who disagree will never speak up. Though they don't speak up, they still will get a bad feeling about the poster. There is a good chance they will be less likely to buy from or use that persons services.

The people who agree with your viewpoints would still buy or use your services, whether you post politics or not. The smart thing to do is to avoid posting or marketing anything controversial. But many people can't do it. This is especially important with recent school shootings and gun control. People are very emotional and guns and children. Don't offend your customers.

Even though you say that these big companies should be staying out of politics, they're not. Google, Facebook, Twitter (and so on and so forth) are found to be time and time again silencing conservative voices on their platform. 

All of these companies have given in , and they're forcing Conservatives to try to find alternatives to their platforms in droves. It's pretty sad.

Corporations, like almost everything else, are political. Of course they don't usually openly pick one side of a political debate. They give money and support to campaigns on both sides so their political interests become policy no matter who wins. 

This may be good advice for individuals in most cases though.
