i cannot get that when majority of the voters voted for democrats but the result was in the favor of republicans as they won and form the government, the result changed due to electoral college, so if the result can be over turned by such a college than what is the need for public voting

and result of all this is in the shape of Mr Trump , so bear Mr Trump till he is there and his policies
👍

**We have to vote. It's majority rules but wins are limited to each State. It's not a National Election. It's 50 separate elections with each state worth so many points also known as Electoral College Votes. This is meant to prevent the overpopulated city centers (who live in liberal echo chambers) from having too much influence on the Country as a whole.**

I'd say electoral college ftw then. Democracies have always fallen to authoritarian mob-rule with leaders bribing and taking advantage of ignorant people through government-provided "bread and circuses". People in cities have always been more susceptible to this, as social interaction is much more prevalent and concentrated. This leads to more group-think, which is antithetical to freedom. The founders knew this, so they gave rural areas more votes in the electoral college to restrain the factions in the population-dense cities. Also, what @adconner said.
