The site, origially known as "The Facebook", was created by Mark Zuckerberg and his fellow college room-mates and friends Eduardo Saverin, Andrew McCollum, Dustin Moskovitz, and Chris Hughes. The initial idea was to connect the students of Harvard University in Massachusetts, where they all studied, in an online community. It became extremely popular, and so they extended it out to the other Ivy League colleges and eventually it was linking many of the Universities across the United States and Canada. Facebook of course has gone on to become one of the biggest internet companies the world has ever seen – it has now morphed into Meta as Zuckerberg took on the challenge of trying to dominate the virtual world. To its credit, it has allowed friends and people to interact, businesses to grow and social media to proliferate.
