I think there is something lost in the creation of a "perfect" partner. There is a level of emotional investment and reward to be found only in accepting another person's unique idiosyncrasies and foibles. There is a level of depth that comes from the inevitable times of disappointment, forgiveness, and healing between two people who are dedicated to making a life together by compromising for one another at times. After twelve years of marriage I cherish that new dimension. As a child I saw my great-great-aunt and uncle after 65 years together and knew they had something that only time and acceptance can create. I wanted that and I'm on my way to having it.

That said, it's not my business to be the evangelical of lasting love. ***I*** think this woman is missing out on something grand, but so are people who divorce the minute the first blush of infatuation fades. Their priorities are different from mine and that's ok.
