super super easy to convert it once you figure it out. you can create a bittrex account and transfer SBD (steem dollars) to the account. then sell it on their exchange for any coin you want. If you ever want to get that out you can transfer it over (from bittrex) to coinbase. then withdrawal it to your bank account. there's quite a few steps involved but once it's done a few times, it's easy.

Transfer the bitcoin to Gemini exchange as they charge less in fees when you convert to fiat. In fact Gemini does not charge a fee to cash out like coinbase.

You may say it's easy, try telling that to the public we want to attract. My mother would not go through all these steps. We can only hope a decent-functioning exchange will decide to accept steem and implement the possibility to convert to Fiat money.
