Hey @majes - you might be someone who can help explain this a bit more. I was yesterday reading some pro/con papers of the opinions around whether it was good for the "witnesses/investors" to make the moves that would get SBD back to a $1 range - i'm not sure I really get it, was wondering if you have any thoughts that might help me think through what would be at stake in that kind of development.
Thanks

Well, I have always believed we should not worry about the price of the SBD and that the setting for witness bias should be removed. Payouts should be either 100% Steem Power or 50/50. But that is not the case.

By adjusting the print rate of SBD over Steem Power the witnesses have some, but very little control over the supply of the SBD therefor; "theoretically" the price.

I think it comes down to some thinking we should try and maintain a USD peg so it could have more uses besides speculation. I see that as a valid point but an unachievable one in my opinion. If SBD's are Steem Backed, then steem would need to be 1 USD for that to even be conceivable. It was always a gray area and there was talk of removing the SBD all together at one time.

I say let the market decide. Every SBD that is printed is printed here at Steemit and earned first by Steemians. If others want to speculate on price and demand drives it to 100 USD so be it.. All the more reason to join Steemit and earn SBD.

Of course that would make it not so useful as a unit of exchange, but it never has been and in my opinion never will be. Currencies are often traded at a premium in certain markets, that shouldn't affect the internal polices for that currency, again; in my opinion :)

Keep Steemin !!
