I looked around to find articles about the inaccurate reporting to make the clarifications and looks like people have beaten me to the task. 

I can't say for sure, but it seems like your post here may have made a difference.  

You do have a very valid point. We all should actively respond to articles to point out their inaccuracy and complete ignorance of how STEEM works.
